NYC Empowerment Schools Are a “Growth” Opportunity
According to information from the New York City Department of Education, principals in the city’s Empowerment Schools will now “…be able to spend their schools’ money on services they need rather than receiving services as mandates from central, regional, or district offices. While schools’ use of resources will still be subject to all state and federal legal requirements, schools will now have more flexibility to tailor services to the specific students they serve.”
The city’s DOE has established a Market Maker office to connect Empowerment Schools with potential service providers. Principals must make purchases from an approved vendor list. For information about requirements and opportunities for inclusion on the list, education marketers can visit: http://schools.nyc.gov/Offices/ChildrenFirst/Empowerment/Market/default.htm
