A Conversation With Jeanne Hayes:
Technology in Schools – New Survey Captures the Trends
Survey to Provide Education Marketers With Wealth of Information
About New Opportunities and Changes Ahead
Today’s students have been characterized as “digital natives.” Technology has been part of their lives since their birth. While some schools have made progress in adopting new technologies, the majority have a long way to go. In most school districts, the learning environment is more like the 1900s, with teachers lacking the tools they need to bring them into the digital age and students who are bored lack interest in studies and who are farther behind in math and science when compared with other countries.
The key question is how are districts planning to serve their ever-increasing technology-savvy students and get their teachers up to speed? And how can education marketers find new opportunities and keep on top of these new trends?
A new survey, America’s Digital Schools 2006: A Five-Year Forecast, launched by two well-known icons in the education industry, Jeanne Hayes of The Hayes Connection and Tom Greaves of The Greaves Group, will shed light on what superintendents and curriculum, technology, and business directors really think about a wide range of instructional computing topics, including e-learning, one-to-one computing, and professional development, as well as forecasts for five years of growth for technology in their school systems.
The America’s Digital Schools survey, distributed to 2,500 of the largest U.S. school districts (those with 4,000 students or more), is the first of its kind and will measure where schools are in terms of adopting what is termed ubiquitous technology and where they want to be in the future. The final results are sure to hold a wealth of information about current and future selling opportunities to a broad range of education marketers, including software and hardware companies, media and content providers, as well as companies that sell professional development services and products.
Successful School Marketer (SSM) recently had a conversation with Jeanne Hayes who shared some preliminary survey results and the direction of technology in schools.
