Software Development Manager – Shelton, CT

We currently have an opening for a Software Development Manager in our Shelton, Connecticut office.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Developing and maintaining internal business systems that support MDR’s daily operations.
  • Developing and maintaining external customer facing applications.
  • Establishing best practices for software development within the organization.
  • Building and mentoring a multi-disciplinary agile software development team capable of building business systems across multiple platforms including web-based and server-based software systems.
  • Providing cross-functional leadership within the organization to help raise the awareness of new technology within MDR to drive new ways of thinking.
  • Working with the Technology Leader to execute on the strategies of the business.
  • Coordination of internal and external resources to meet product release timelines and budgetary constraints.
  • Constantly monitoring and improving MDR’s internal software development practices to increase the overall velocity of the software development team.

Qualifications Include:

  • Strong software development and architectural skills. This is a hands-on position that will require you to architect and write code in the .Net environment. We’re looking for someone with at least 7-10 years of experience developing in the Microsoft environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft software development tools, including C#, .Net 2.0+, ASP.Net and SQL Server 2005 is required. Experience with Share Point, BizTalk, and Windows Workflow Foundation is preferred.
  • Strong process management skills are required to drive the team. Our adopted methodology is Scrum. Knowledge of agile software development using Scrum or a similar process is required. Certified Scrum Master is preferred though not required. Scrum of Scrums experience would be excellent.
  • At least three years of demonstrated experience leading a small team of developers on one or more simultaneous projects.
  • Strong internal partnering capabilities along with leadership and communication skills. Able to devise innovative and effective solutions to complex problems with cross-functional implications.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies such as continuous integration, unit testing, user stories and agile estimation is preferred.
  • A college degree in computer science or a related MIS field is required, MS preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of SQL Server in both warehousing and operational data store scenarios.
  • A people leader who is focused on developing people to get the best out of them, and understands that a happy team is a productive team.
  • Proven track record of being resourceful and self-motivated to get the job done.
