MDR Trend Reports Give Marketers Valuable Insight to Growth Opportunities in Education

New Reports on Enrollment, Teacher Spending, and Student Information System Trends Now Available to Customers

February 9, 2010 – MDR announced today the release of three new education market reports to help customers follow trends and identify new opportunities.

MDR’s annual Enrollment Comparison Report gives customers insight to the total U.S. K-12 public school population for the 2009-2010 year. Year-over-year analysis shows an increase in students--48.4 million for the 2009-2010 school year. Building on data collected in MDR’s annual K-12 district and school update, this free report provides one-year comparisons by state and by county. What Teachers Buy, How They Buy, and How They Want to Learn About Products

Based on the findings from MDR’s third national survey of public school teachers across the U.S., Educator Buying Trends: A National Survey – 2010 explores the types of materials teachers purchase, their interactions with various marketing channels, and their preferences about obtaining product information. This insightful look at where and how teachers use both classroom budgets and personal funds will help MDR customers identify buying behaviors and the best opportunities and ways to sell to educators.

Trend analysis from previous surveys is complemented by insight to new marketing and buying influencers, including social media and professional networking channels, as well as funds available through the ARRA stimulus funds.

“This year’s Educator Buying Trends report again shows that a significant amount of funding, nearly $2 billion, gets spent annually from classroom budgets or from teachers’ own out-of-pocket contributions,” said Chuck Romans, MDR Vice President of Product Development. “The report also reveals that despite the severe budget constraints so many districts are facing, classroom budgets are largely consistent with where they were two years ago.”

District Implementation of Student Information and Data Warehouse Systems

MDR conducted a survey of over 300 District IT Directors to gather insight for the now available K12 Decision Support Systems Report, authored by Lee Wilson, Headway Strategies and CEO of PCI Education, and Larry Nelson, Worldwide Managing Director of Primary/Secondary Education at Microsoft Corporation.

In this first industry report focused on the market for Student Information Systems (SIS) and Data Warehouse Systems (DWS), MDR customers get actionable insight into market size and competitive information that can help identify new opportunities for providers, reveal market dynamics for SIS and DWS partners and investors, and help policy makers funding data-driven decision making.

The survey was co-sponsored by Technology & Learning, Headway Strategies, and Educational Systemics. The K12 Decision Support Systems Report is available in a multiuser site license. Click to preview the report and to order online at schooldata.com.
